For Cupra, the overarching software versions have so far been 2.4, 3.0, 3.1, 3.2. These are usually reflected in the ICAS3 infotainment unit.

However it gets murky between 3.1 and 3.2 because in 3.2, ICAS3 didn't get updated and it still shows software version 0561 - although various subsystems did.

So keep in mind that unlike Tesla, the MEB platform doesn't run a heavily centralized system whereby the "main" software version can be simply gleaned by looking at what the infotainment unit states.

There are a lot of ways to look at this: just because the navi gets updated maps monthly doesn't mean the infotainment should report a new version number for itself.

Likewise, some updates like this short one were simultaneously delivered to 3.0, 3.1 and 3.2 Borns and those don't fall under the rubrik of a major version-changing software update.

As a software dev, if one of the external libraries your software relies on gets updated but your main application stays the same, that shouldn't necessarily lead to a version number change, right?

The last few comments were very interesting- particularly in relation to a new major OTA update ; involving efficiency improvements. I still would think that any software changes that are made need to be tracked by in this case the VW nomenclature system. So for major updates like which I experienced on my former ID3 when I went from 2.4 to 3.0 which was certainly a long and major update. Then for minor updates say from 3.1 to 3.2 - then again for very minor revisions perhaps you could say from 3.1 to 3.1.5 or as has been suggested no numbering change at all. So the question remains is there any way of knowing whether you're on 3.1 or 3.2 software on the Born- e.g some change on the infotainment screen which is on 3.2 (visible to ID.3 owners) but not on 3.1. Also if some genius could inform us in broad brush summary form what the known future software revisions will do for us ............... 3.3/3.4/3.5 and indeed 4.0. Also the quoted pending major update - what revision number will this have??

VCDS and maybe Car Scanner via a decent OBDII interface will easily read out all the software versions of all the subsystems.

As far as what's been reported, the current MEB vehicles will never receive 4.0. Only vehicles with the forthcoming new ICAS3 infotainment unit like the ID.7, ID.2 and next year's ID.3 will get 4.0. No idea about plans for the Born's hardware update. The rest of us are relegated to a few more medium-ish updates (up to 3.5 I've heard) then I guess 15 years of security updates.

The closest you're going to get to finding out what exactly you have is to read out all the software versions of your subsystems then compare it to this list:

You'll have to wait a bit until they start filling out more info for 3.2 and 3.4 (Buzz).

Thanks for this. Funnily enough I'm happy with the infotainment software I have (0561) as it is at least 3.1. Responsive enough for me and particularly appreciate using the preferred charging times for night time charging as I have a dumb home charger. There are a lot of owners still patiently waiting a long time for news on the 2.4 to 3.0 upgrade. Hopefully this will happen soon for them. Maybe in a future update the Born will also show the software revision number.

I've not had my Born very long, so apologies if I'm missing something obvious that's mentioned in another thread somewhere, but isn't the "ID.Software" the current version number? I'd just assumed it was. Our Born was purchased by the original owner in July 2022.

Version 3.0 is an exception as it's the only one displayed as such on that info page.

3.0 is also known as 0333 when using the diagnostics tools to read the firmware.

Someone in the German Born forum just received one that has 1701, aka 3.5. Not sure what the differences are yet...

That’s is a software bug that will eventually drive you totally mad! Book it in at the dealership and there is a TPI update that gets rid of it.

When it asks you that and you eventually click ok to shut it up it will randomly change settings you don’t want changed. Mine did it almost every day until I got the update at the dealers.
