Yeah, but what I'm saying is that even if you don't have run-flat tires you still don't get a jack.

A tire iron is also listed as part of the tool kit (PY1/PY3) but nobody has reported receiving one.
I took it as meaning that all Borns are fitted with run flat tyres. Didn’t realise that some aren’t?

I had a Mini Cooper S with run-flats (I paid extra for them when I bought it new) and those tyres had RUN FLAT TYRES written on the side walls so it was obvious. My Born tyres definitely do not have this text, and I cannot read anything about the type of tyres in the online documentation. They also usually have information about not exceeding 50 mph with a flat tyre, and how far you can drive the tyres before having to replace them. With the Mini for example this was 50 miles with 4 people in the car, but increased to 150 miles with just the driver. I guess the technology may have moved on from my 2014 Mini, but was expecting something?

My car has Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance which are described as having "our revolutionary RunOnFlat technology lets you drive at up to 50mph on a flat tyre. So there’s no need for roadside tyre changes, and a reduced risk of motorway blowouts."

Be aware that if you do drive on them when flat (e.g. wake up to a flat tyre, so drive to the tyre shop to get it repaired) they will almost certainly refuse to do so and require you to fit a new tyre. This is the massive disadvantage of runflat tyres - yes, you can drive on them when deflated to some extent, but don't expect to ever use the tyre again. Goodyear claim they can be repaired, by a specialist, under very specific conditions and after a "thorough inspection", but good luck finding any tyre shop that will do this if you have driven on it.

In short, runflat tyres are, in general, a dreadful concept with the possible exception of being able to use them on a motorway, rather than having to stop to swap a tyre, even if this will certainly require a new, expensive tyre to be fitted.

In Germany at least, neither the stock 18" summer tires nor the optional 18" rims with winter tires were run flat. The upside is that these vehicles (such as mine) shipped with the optional 12V tire pump and a can of tire repair goo.

The Born is coming to Australian shores very soon (I think 500+ sold across the country so far). I don't think many people realize yet, but the standard 19" Tyre (and 20") are not stocked... anywhere... in tyre shops. I'm worried about road trips (its common for many Aussies travel 200-400km+ on holidays to the regional spots), and if you get a flat tyre in the middle of no-where you are going to be in strife! And not to mention, getting towed somewhere you may need to wait weeks for a replacement tyre to be delivered.

To be safe, I've asked the dealer to order an extra full sized wheel for when we go on holiday. Can anyone link me to a suitable jack (the lightest/most compact that is safe to use on the Born? I'm not sure a space saver makes sense here, because if you have to put one on you are going to be stuck travelling 80/km hr for a huge journey back home (and it might cut your holiday short).

Does "jack" mean something different in Australia? Here we're talking about the mechanical device that lifts the vehicle to change the wheels, but you seem to be talking about a spare wheel which might limit maximum speeds - clearly a jack wouldn't limit your Vmax.

Hi Elea - I mean, I don't believe the Australian bound cars come with a car jack either. I want to order one so I can swap the tyre in the event of a flat tyre, but I'm not sure what one to get that suits the car (Given it weighs more than a regular hatchback).

For a car not intended to carry a spare wheel (no recess to accommodate one), the provision of a jack, or even a wheel brace is pointless. Someone else will be taking that wheel off your car, and they'll have their own jacking system and means of taking your wheel nuts off, all they need is the locking wheel nut adapter.

In a pinch you could use a 2t toe jack. Doesn't weigh much, doesn't take up a lot of space. But make sure to use one that has a wide rubber puck that can be mounted on top.

As for a space saver, check out this post here: viewtopic.php?p=2423#p2423

CUPRA will actually sell you an official Born jack as an accessory off their website in UK for about £37 although people doubt that it will last long if you read earlier posts. Some websites that sell a spare wheel also sell a pack including wheel and jack etc for those of us who don’t like sitting beside the road waiting for help to come and change a tyre at huge expense.
