Interior overhead lights

Do the little dimly lit squares around the interior overhead lights need to be on, or can they be switched off completely?
I realize you can lower the interior lighting altogether, but then the screens go a lot darker as well.

I guess those lit up squares are there to help you find the light, but I just find them annoying like hell.

Anybody knows if they can be switched off for good?

Yes, you can dimming to zero the light from "interior light"
