Has anyone successfully been able to purchase another year of Free Road Tax, as discussed by Martin Lewis' MoneySavingExpert site.
quote -" Get FREE tax for an extra year on your EV
If your EV was first registered on or after 1 April 2017, make sure you re-tax it in March 2025 (it can be anytime BEFORE 1 April 2025, but to maximise the savings you should do it in March). Doing this means you'll push back the deadline for paying tax on your EV to when it's next due for renewal in March 2026 (assuming you renew in March 2025).
It doesn't matter what month your EV expires, you can re-tax it anytime using your car's registration number and the reference number on your V5C Registration certificate (logbook) printed in your name. The Government website will ask "Are you sure?" to which you just click to accept."
I tried this, but confirming came back with - "However, if you have been told to tax by DVLA, please continue with the transaction."

yes it works. i have tested this already

when you get asked if you have a reminder letter - say no
next select the option for using your V5C
enter reg and V5 reference number
then just click continue on the next page
it will then warn you your car is already taxed, ignore this and click continue.

best to do this on 1st March and then you will get free tax until end of Feb 2026

Does not having the letter telling you to tax sent by DVLA cause you any concern. (As shown in my screenshot) ????

No, I had the same screen. I guess this is more of an issue if you had existing tax on the car you had paid for as you would end up double paying for the month you change. But as your previous tax was £0 then no issue.

Don't forget to re-tax your cars from March 1st to obtain 12 months zero tax rate, rather than let Rachel from Accounts take it.
