I love the Born but also the balloon payment means I am almost definitely handing it back with zero equity + cost of extra mileage over the contracted period (I didn't realise how much it will be used because of how cheap it is to run)

I would look at EV again perhaps another born but will be a lease for sure

It's a shame the 2nd hand prices have plummeted so much as it more than wipes off all savings I'm making with cheap electric charging. Thought I had done well buying a 9 month old one for £10,000 less than the new price, but a year later and it's dropped another £8,000. That's £18k drop in 2 years ( almost 50% depreciation). Will certainly end up being the most expensive car I've ever owned.

Not sure how people can be encouraged to go EV when financially it makes no sense. I've also got a X5 which has depreciated the same amount in 5 years.

Even worse the UK government will start charging EV owners vehicle tax every year from April 2025, another disincentive.

Yep. Like I said, they have botched the EV rollout in the UK (what a surprise).
But, they will plow on regardless.

I am now almost certain I will go back to diesel truck for various reasons. I have no doubt I will re-visit EVs as I do like them. But not until it's literally compulsory.

I absolutely will get another one, and will never buy an ICE car again.

For me, it's a no-brainer. Yes I will get another EV. I don't do much mileage, I mostly do short journeys. I have solar panels and I do all my charging at home on an overnight low tariff.
Will it be another Born? I would like it to be, I love driving the car, but the infotainment/electronics are just not good enough. In fact I may leave VAG altogether after owning them for almost 25 years. The only cars that would tempt me would be a seriously upgraded Born or maybe the proposed ID.2 GTI.

I love our Born and woulld definitely have considered paying the final payment until you see the depreciation, which will mean the car will be worth far less than I would have to pay to keep it.
I will probably let it go back and watch the used market to see where it ends up and if it is at a sensible price (way below GFV) then buy it back that way.
Anyone been able to negotiate with VWFS to buy a car at below the GFV?

I love my Cupra Born and the plan was to get a Tavascan when the PCP contract allowed. However the cost of the VZ Tavascan is higher than I expected so that's unlikely now. My current train of thought is the facelift Tesla Model 3 (which cost less new than I paid for the Born), or maybe something like an Audi Q4 E-Tron Sportback. I like the Tela Model Y but it still has the 'old' styling and is no doubt due for a facelift in the near future. Will absolutely be sticking with electric though.

Yes I would absolutely. Car generally is rock solid. Very few if any niggles with infotainment system now. If there is, long press on power for reset. Car insurance is a low as the insurer will go for ANY policy. It’s very cheap to run. Yes trade in is a concern, but I really enjoy driving it. Getting solar panels would be the next step.

Going back to ICE is only delaying the inevitable folks.

Yes - new one on order now! Had a test drive of the VZ - nice, but not extra £7k+ nice. Performance is a bit better of course, but not a huge increase over non VZ and can't use the extra top speed; if you want to keep your license! Seats are also a bit uncomfortable after a few hours (had a full day test drive). So, we've ordered another V2. The infotainment is more responsive than our '22 model. There is now the 5 year warranty instead of 3. Delivery will be before 1st April '25 so we get another year of free road tax and also get in before the 'luxury car tax' applies to EVs over £40k in the same way as it does to ICE cars. 0% 3yr finance with £4.5k contribution from Cupra. Down-side... trade in was half what we paid just two years ago.

I am curious, is it the insurance cost driving the change back to petrol, charging costs (I hear are high in the UK) or the practicality?

Are running costs about the same as a petrol, to which I would say why buy a new car and suffer the highest depreciation again (first 2 years)
