Scraping Noise when coming out of Full lock

My car makes the noise/vibration when turning the steering wheel rapidly from full lock to central when manoevering. It is a vibration that starts at a large amplitude and rapidly decreases to zero. I think it some kind of system instability that is provoked by a rapid change of input variable (steering). They should be able to design it out in software ( or hardware if it came to it). I can’t believe any damage is being done by these occurrences.

Hopefully @Cliffjp 🤞

See attached screenshot from when mine went in couple of weeks ago, they mention a TPI for the steering, pity they didn’t provide the number to correlate with what @Elea4 has mentioned. “Mesial” is a typo on the first item, it should have been “Media” which is for the settings issues, the part still on order.

Once again, this will be fixed by TPI 2069354/1.

I personally like Auto Hold and so I just tolerate the noise.

monkeyhanger wrote: Mon Mar 06, 2023 8:22 pm I get it about half lock pulling away fast, eg turning out of a junction quickly. Definitely feels like the front wheels scrabbling for grip, as the Conti 6 tyres have worn a little. Only started a few weeks ago. Never happened with the ID3, but still not convinced there's an actual fault.
Was your steering angle near the limit?

If so, this is definitely TPI 2069354/1 whereby the steering motor goes into some kind of hysteresis oscillation at around 200 degrees of rotation. It can feel like the wheels are slipping but it's not that at all.
I'd guess about half lock, maybe a little beyond.

Check out this log that an owner recorded:

200.png

- The green line shows the steering wheel position in degrees as the owner rotated the steering wheel while driving.

- The indigo line shows what the steering servo is doing.

- During specific acceleration and steering combinations, you can see the steering servo start to oscillate wildly shortly after it hits 200 degrees. This can be perceived as shuddering, juddering, skidding, etc.

That’s great insight, want that fixed soon as possible.

I had my car I to get many issues fixed including the steering vibration / noise TPI 2069354/1 they told me and showed me a letter from seat saying this update should not be applied and they should not carry out any further work on this until a new software update is released.

 Interesting, at least you get what seems to be an explanation out of your dealer. mine it goes in with a clear list of 7 issues, they renewed a module/apply a software fix for 1 of these issues (the infamous accept new user settings), but don’t have anything sensible to say about anything else. They told me all the settings issues were fixed, not true, and that they hadn't fixed something else.

That’s where they fail, what do they expect me to do, forget about it?

That said, did a 250 mile motorway round trip yesterday, 3 adults, comfortable, planted, stylish, enough power, 3.6 mi/kWh, none of the irritations were at play. Love hate relationship.

I’ve noticed a high pitched, almost “whistling” sound when turning sharply left. Only started recently and no juddering, so probably a different issue?
