Hi guys,
I’ve got a v2 born, I’ve done 2000 miles and suddenly this creaking noise has developed when I steer in any direction. Does anyone know what this is?
Thanks!

Hi mate,
Could be lots of things. Near impossible to diagnose on the internet!.
Given the vehicle is very new, take it back to the dealer. It could be something in the front suspension or the steering system itself (I have heard a faulty clock spring or horn contact ring can be a culprit if the noise is actually heard at the steering wheel when in the cabin, but I doubt that on such a new vehicle.) Sorry I can't be much more help.

Hi mate, I’ve got it booked in but I thought if anyone had an insight into the problem, I could present that to the dealer in case they try and fob me off. Funny enough I was a red light todayaussieBORN23 wrote: ↑Mon May 06, 2024 8:27 am Hi mate,

My Born V1 is 15 months old with 14,000 miles and has just developed a creaking when turning the wheel in either direction, sounds like it's coming from underneath the dash at the bottom of the windscreen, so could be something to do with the steering rack.
My nearest dealer is miles away (I live in Yeovil) so bit reluctant to book it in.
This will be its third trip to the dealers, the first time it went in with a faulty ECU so wouldn't charge on AC, the second time with a broken OSF window motor, so hopefully this will be the third and final issue I have with the car!
@ben88 - please could you report back what your dealer finds, I would be interested to know, thanks.

Took it to the dealer they done an update and said that the creaking is normal, he was saying it was the brake pads that move and that’s why is sounds like it’s the steering wheel, probably too lazy to investigate he said that all cars do it which none of my other VAG cars made that sound. I asked him to compare it to another born they have there and he couldn’t, I took my car back because I was in a hurry. So I’m gonna wait a while until it gets louder and take it back.Familyguy1982 wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2024 2:49 pm My Born V1 is 15 months old with 14,000 miles and has just developed a creaking when turning the wheel in either direction, sounds like it's coming from underneath the dash at the bottom of the windscreen, so could be something to do with the steering rack.

My Born with 26,700kms recently started having the creaking sound whilst turning the wheel. Only noticeable at parking speeds. It doesn't sound serious so I'm ignoring it for now, but would be interesting to hear what the dealer reports for those above who take it to the dealer.
The posts about this issue on the German Born forum seem to indicate two things:
1. it seems to happen more at higher temperatures (my experience agrees with this, it's been close to 30C the last few days here, when I've noticed it more).
2. One user who took it to the dealer says they told him it's coming from the rubber boot where the steering column passes through the firewall, and they applied some special grease there which solved the problem.
