Charging speed? Why is it so slow?
My average on long trips has been a very disappointing, even shockimg, 45kW/hr when :
- the average temperature has been well over 10°C
- the chargers used have been rated variously at 120- 250kW (mainly the latter with no significant difference)
- the charging window has been almost exclusively 20-80%
- the battery protection option has been OFF
- other EVs are clearly getting top up charges of 50% (30kW+) in 15-20 minutes AT THE SAME CHARGERS
Given an advertised (even vaunted) maximum charge rate of 125kW it would seem reasonable in the UK's hospitable climate to expect a minimum of 70kW/hr and at least 100kW+ on a good day. Right now I'd settle for 60-80kW/hr because the highest I've touched briefly is 61kW/hr
On the plus side I think the Born is justifiably electric car of the year. In all other respects it's a FANTASTIC bit of kit and worth putting up with maybe 4-6 longer than expected trips a year. After all the research I did I was confident I'd like it and it has exceeded my high expectations
PS I'd recommend hand washing at least once to fully appreciate the design genius
PPS Those who are "not so experienced with public charging" should probably not be waxing lyrically about charging curves. True, there are "so many variables" but nowhere near enough to justify on average of around 45kW/hr

I got 123kW on a recent trip in ideal conditions. But the curve quickly went down after that, averaging around 72kW from 15-80%.

How did you pre-warm the battery? On my Born there is no way to explicitly do this.

Is it a VZ / 2025 thing? In the battery menu I've got Battery Condition and can press to prewarm the battery in prep for a fast charge.mluisbrown wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2024 5:21 pmHow did you pre-warm the battery? On my Born there is no way to explicitly do this.

Oh nice! I'm still hoping that that feature will be added in the 3.7 software update for older models, but it seems increasingly less likely.dirk1978 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 7:08 amIs it a VZ / 2025 thing?
